About the RA

Who are we?

The Tattenhams Residents' Association represents residents living in the Tattenhams Ward of Reigate and Banstead Borough Council. This is the area bounded by Epsom Downs, Yew Tree Bottom Road, Nork Park, Brighton Road (A217), Burgh Heath and Chetwode Road.

We are a non-party political organisation that aims to preserve and improve the amenities of the district, and seeks to foster good local government by a close liaison with local authorities and other local bodies.

Joining the RA

We would like all residents to join - it costs just £2 a year. Please contact the Chairman, John Butcher on 01737 - 351572 or respond by a feedback message on this website.

Yes, but what does the RA actually do?

The RA promotes improvements, responds to initiatives, and pursues issues and problems with the services provided by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council and by Surrey County Council. This includes:

    • traffic problems, road improvements and public transport
    • pavements and street lighting
    • planning and development control / greenbelt
    • safety, crime and policing
    • schools and libraries
    • refuse services, fly tipping, grafitti and abandoned vehicles
    • community services
    • housing
    • parks, recreation and leisure

The RA is represented on a number of local bodies and attends public meetings of an even greater number. These include Epsom & Walton Downs Conservators, Banstead Commons Conservators, Nork Park Volunteers, Police Neighbourhood Panels, Neighbourhood Watch, Council for the Protection of Rural England CPRE - Reigate & Banstead Branch, Derby Day Consultations and the East Surrey Transport Committee.

Local Councillors

The RA is fortunate in that the three local borough councillors and also the county councillor are all representatives of the Residents' Association.

Together with the three RA councillors from Nork, they form an effective independent group, promoting the interests of the 'far north' of the borough. An objective is to ensure that resources are directed fairly and are value for money.

At Surrey County Council, your councillor links up with RA councillors from Epsom & Ewell (where the Residents' Association leads the Council), and also RA councillors from Elmbridge.

But I support one of the major political parties, can I still be a member?

Of course. The RA pursues only local, borough and county issues on the strength of their individual merits. The RA and its councillors will assist any resident, regardless of their political persuasion, and whether or not they are a member of the RA or not.

How can I get help?

We aim to represent the views of residents. If you have an issue you are unable to solve on your own, or a local matter or interest, please

  • phone the Chairman, John Butcher on 01737 - 351572
  • or the Secretary, John Edwards on 01737 - 211137
  • or one of the Councillors (see 'R A Contacts' page on this website)
  • or another committee member (again, see 'R A Contacts' page)
  • or use the feedback section on the home page of this website

Communication

The R A aims to communicate with all residents through the green Tattenhams R A Newsletter. It covers topical local matters and is distributed four times a year. The latest issue is included in the Newsletter page of this website and several years back issues can also be accessed.

We welcome feedback. all issues and concerns raised by residents are noted and discussed with your local councillors at our monthly committee meetings.

Our councillors are there to support and represent you at borough and county level.

We hold public meetings twice a year - the AGM in March and generally a second meeting in the autumn. Your councillors give a report and answer questions, and we also invite at least one other speaker to address a matter of interest.

We hold a monthly surgery at the Tattenham Corner library - on the first Friday of each month at 6:00 pm

Other meetings on specific issues or concerns are held with groups of residents or local organisations, as required.
